Finding What Fits

Just took a little Sunday stroll around the Treehouse. The thermometer on the balcony, in the shade, read 108, but when i was walking in the blustery breezes, it didn’t feel like it was more than 104.

Redding is known for it’s hot summers, but since 2007 each year has been hotter than the one before. It is no surprise to me, I have been a world weather watcher ever since I recieved the book “Everyday Weather and How It Works” when I was 8 years old.

What does surprise and frighten me is how many people get their information from TV and radio personalities who are paid to tell them that the world is not getting warmer. They believe the TV and radio celebrities, even though overwhelming scientific evidence points to dramatic changes being caused by our activities.

This denial has been delaying programs that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels and limit the extent of global warming and climate change.

The more we do nothing, the more devastating the damage to the balance of planetary weather patterns. We continue contributing to the elimination of plant and animal habitats, and a list of chemistry changes that will ultimately make this planet uninhabitable.

What to do? Just keep trying to put an end to the use of fossil fuel for our energy needs, like educated, concerned people have been doing for the last 40 years. It is already cheaper to use solar panels on our rooftops to power our homes and more people are doing that each year than the year before.

Eat less meat. It is good for you and you save water. A lot of water.

My A/C thermostat is set at 80 degrees when it is just me at home. That seems to be about right. When I have company, I reduce the temperature to compensate for the extra body heat.

It is a small thing, but it is something, and that is better than nothing.
